We love Lucy!
Here's the summary of Lucy's birth story- I went into work on Wednesday night at 10:30 pm because I had told my work I felt fine and no contractions (even though I was 4 days over due). At work I did a lot of walking and when I finally sat down at the nurses station at 2:00 am I heard and felt a pop and knew my water had broken. I cleaned up and put a pad on in the bathroom and my contractions started shortly after but they weren't too bad. I gave report and did my charting and drove home at 3:00 but my contractions were getting a lot more painful and closer. I made it home although after getting off the freeway I had to pull over for a contraction and ended up throwing up on the side of the road from the pain. I got home at 3:30 and decided to call my mom to have her come sleep there with the kids so we could go to the hospital. My contractions were so intense I just lay on the bed and between them I'd tell Ben the things to add to our bags to get ready. He was so encouraging and helpful. At this point I told him I just wanted an epidural once we got to the hospital because the contractions were too intense. As soon as my mom pulled up we drove off and got to IMC at 4:30 am. They got me in a room and I asked for an epidural but they checked me and I was at an 8 1/2. The nurse paged the anesthesiologist but when he got there the nurse said, "honey we can see 2 inches of your baby's head- you just need to give us a few pushes and she'll be out." So no epidural for me- the doctor on call (Dr. Barton) walked in just as I started pushing. It was pretty painful! I was screaming as I pushed but she came with 3 or 4 good pushes and it was over. She was born 17 mins after we walked into the hospital. They gave her to me first for a while but I was shaking so bad I had Ben take her once he cut the cord. The placenta came out great, I didn't tear enough to need suturing thank goodness! I was able to get up and walk around 30 mins later when we switched rooms. Lucy breastfed well. She was 5 lbs 15 ounces and 19 inches long and incredibly beautiful!
